The tongue is a muscular organ in the mouth. The tongue is covered with moist, pink tissue called mucosa. Tiny bumps called papillae give the tongue its rough texture. Thousands of taste buds cover the surfaces of the papillae. Taste buds are collections of nerve-like cells that connect to nerves running into the brain.
The tongue is anchored to the mouth by webs of tough tissue and mucosa. The tether holding down the front of the tongue is called the frenum. In the back of the mouth, the tongue is anchored into the hyoid bone. The tongue is vital for chewing and swallowing food, as well as for speech.
The four common tastes are sweet, sour, bitter, and salty. A fifth taste, called umami, results from tasting glutamate (present in MSG). The tongue has many nerves that help detect and transmit taste signals to the brain. Because of this, all parts of the tongue can detect these four common tastes; the commonly described “taste map” of the tongue doesn’t really exist.
Apart from the tongue being an organ in the mouth, the tongue tends to be very powerful.
I heard of a story that happened a long time ago. A mother kept proclaiming bad words on her child. She kept using abusive words on her child. At times she even described her child as an animal. Comparing her child to an animal. No postive word ever came from her mouth.
Each time she said something it was "you this stupid child or you dog or you good for nothing". Eventually when her son was walking on the road one day, he got hit by a car and died.
The accident made the boy's body to be irrecoverable. The whole body smashed into pieces. As if some one went to the market to purchase meat.
When the driver was asked how come, this happened? He said to be honest, i saw the child as an animal. I never it was a child that was why i ran across quickly. I saw the child as an animal he kept repeating.
The mother was present and just kept crying why because her child was gone and it was for good. One amazing stuff that happened is that when she crying at the scene, she was saying my child! My obedient child!. Guess what changed her words.
She always called her child an animal. And eventually he was seen as one and killed. Why because of the use of words. The power of the tongue.
We should learn to use the right words always. Even in the bible, it clearly states in Proverbs 18:21 confirms this by saying, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits."
The tongue is small but powerful. If you haven't being using the right words, i suggest you start from today. Because thesame tongue used in eating is thesame tongue that destroys when used wrongly.
Take note
Proverbs 13:3; “Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin."
If this was helpful, i suggest you share and comment.
Thank you.
