A nine-year-old girl was accidentally suffocated after wrapping a curtain around her neck to imitate a ghost.
Khanitta Pakkhayakul and her three sisters stayed home when their parents visited a relative in Chachoengsao, eastern Thailand, on July 11th. The girl ended up hanging herself with the curtain while her older sister tried to support her weight.
Her parents attempted CPR before their daughter was rushed to hospital, where she was tragically declared dead. The girls' grandmother, Nai, 55, said she would always play with the curtain to imitate the ghosts. "It's been a shock to me since her parents left a few minutes before they came home and found their daughter dead."
The girl's mother, Supanee, 30, added: "I thought it might have fallen while the curtain had wrapped and when her sisters noticed it, it was too late." It is as devastating for the whole family as it was, still young and we miss her very much. I still don't want to believe she's dead.
"Now we will be more careful to let the children play alone because I think they would never be able to face another loss." Police are not treating the death as suspicious and a post-mortem examination found that Khanitta died of suffocation.
