Tragedy In Igbo Land As The First Nigerian To Manufacture A Car In Nigeria, Engr Izuogu Is Dead

It is a sad news coming from IMO state as one of the hardworking and illustrious son of Igbo land is dead, Engineer Ezekiel Izuogu was known for his contributions to the development of technology and engineering in Nigeria. He built the first indigenous prototype car in Nigeria in 1997 and was celebrated by Nigerians and across Africa. He was a lecturer with Federal polytechnic Nekede when he produced the Izuogu Z-600.

Mass production was planned under Izuogu motors located in Naze, Imo state, but too many financial and political hurdles prevented the car from proceeding past the prototype stage

Engr. Ezekiel Izuogu Is from Ideato North local government of Imo State he singlehandedly designed and developed the Izuogu Z-600, the first African indigenously manufactured car.

In 1997, the then Head of State, General Sani Abacha, set up a 12 man to ascertain the quality and authenticity of the car. The committee later gave Dr Izuogu’s car a clean bill of health also in  2006, the South African government expressed keen interest in the car, they wanted Izuogu to build it in South Africa.
