Federal Government Planned Shut Down Of Third Mainland Bridge. What Are The Impact On Users?

On the 6th of July 2020, the Federal Government announced that there is a plan to shut down the third mainland bridge. the reason for the closure is to enable them carry out maintenance repairs on the bridge.

This was made known by the Federal Controller of works,Mr Olukayode Popoola, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) .

Recall that Mr Olukayode disclosed that, the modalities for how the work will be carried out were still being worked out, and that once traffic plan is perfected, they will move to the site to commence work.

Now Lagosians are not happy with this arrangement as it's a major link from the mainland to the island.

This Africa's second longest bridge, starts from Oworonshki which is linked to the Apapa-Oshodi Express Way, and the Lagos Ibadan Express Way, and ends at the Adeniji Adele interchange on Lagos Island.

The problem now is that this is a route that easily connects to almost every other routes, as important as this route is, it is about to be shut down, from the 24th of July, and there is a likely hood that it will remain closed for 6 months.what is your take on this plan, do you think it will be just okay to shut down this bridge for 6 months? If you are among those that ply the route to work or your business place, do you think you will be affected in anyway? And how much effect do you think the closure of this bridge will have on Lagosians or users of the bridge?c
