NYSC is an acronym for National Youth Service Corp which was established immediately after Biafra war in 1970 as a way of uniting Nigeria again. The scheme is compulsory for all the graduates of polytechnics and universities who are not above 30 years upon graduation. The young graduates are made to serve their fatherland for one year before being released into the labour market.
On 17th day of July 2020 the Corp members of batch B stream two wre slated to pass out of the service year popularly called POP. One of the female Corp members billed to pass out was sighted in a video that has gone viral online crying because there is no job in Nigeria and she is passing out to suffer as the #33000 allowwee being paid to them will stop. She maintained that no job in Nigeria to work that will make her to continue to enjoy#33000 again.
This calls for a concern as the NYSC has improved the welfare of the unemployed youths who pass through the scheme. The Government should look into the scheme and fashion out a better to reduce the rate of unemployment in the country. In as much as the Federal government is applauded for the recent increase in the monthly payment of Corp members, it is not enough for a young graduate to save and maintain himself or herself against POP.
The cry of the female Corp Member is in order to get the attention of the concerned authorities to do something for the future of corp members after service.
