How Bill Gates And Dangote Became Friends After They Shook Hands

William Henry Gates III (born October 28, 1955) is an American business magnate , software developer, investor, and philanthropist. He is best known as the co-founder of Microsoft Corporation.

Alhaji Aliko Dangote GCON (born 10 April 1957) is a Nigerian businessman and philanthropist who is the founder and chairman of Dangote Group , an industrial conglomerate in Africa.

Both Bill Gate and Aliko Dangote are both successful business men, investors and philanthropists. And they became friends in 2016.

Bill Gates said " A couple years ago, he and I ended up going to the same event in New York. A mutual friend suggested that I meet him because he knew we were both super interested in global health. So we made sure to sit next to each other at dinner.

As soon as we shook hands, it was clear we had a ton in common. We both started successful businesses in the late 1970s. For our second act in life, we both chose to start foundations aimed at improving health and education. (Today, the Dangote Foundation is the largest such organization in sub-Saharan Africa.)

More importantly, we both love to geek out over things that make some people’s eyes glaze over, like cement, fertilizer, and iodized salt. That first meeting sparked the beginning of a fruitful friendship. In 2016, our foundations announced a joint, five-year $100 million commitment to reducing malnutrition in Nigeria.

Since from that time their friendship turned into business venture and they keep supporting each other in their business development.

Dangote said " Meeting Bill made me a totally different person. To think that here is someone who has nothing to do with us in Nigeria or the African continent, and yet he is putting his money, his soul, everything…he is very, very committed to helping humanity". Dangote added that he had been inspired by Gates to give away significant portions of his wealth to charity.
