Do you know that women are becoming managing directors (MDs) in different commercial banks in Nigeria? Women are taking the lead, and this shows what a man can do a woman can also do the same. These extraordinary women have been in the banking sector for years and they have created a portfolio for themselves in the banking industry. Recall, just days ago, the popular bank, known as Guaranty Trust (GT) Bank announced the appointment of a female as the MD/CEO, the person of Miriam Chidiebele Olusanya.
She has become the first woman to occupy the position since the bank was established in the year 1990 and the FCMB also named a woman as their Managing Director as well. However, other banks like Unity Bank, Citibank and others have women in their leading positions as well. However, meet the 2 women who are managing directors of different commercial banks in Nigeria below:
1. Yemisi Edun

She is currently the Managing Director of First City Monument Bank (FCMB). She joined the bank in the year 2000 as Divisional Head of Internal Audit and Control before taking the role of Chief Financial Officer. Yemisi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Ife, and a Master’s degree from the University of Liverpool, UK, in International Accounting and Finance.
2. Miriam Chidiebele Olusanya

She is the current managing director of Guarantee Trust Bank with over 23 years of banking experience. She became part of GT Bank as an executive trainee in 1998. She has worked in different positions in the bank and has a very solid academic background. She holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Ibadan (UI) and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Liverpool, the United Kingdom just like Yemisi Edun.
The two listed women above are the current managing directors of the two different banks in Nigeria.
