Meet the Director-General Of the World Trade Organization - Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was born in Ogwashi-Ukwu, Delta State, Nigeria,on 13th June, 1954, where her father, Professor Chukwuka Okonjo, was the obi (king) of the Obahai Royal Family of Ogwashi-Ukwu.

She is a Nigerian-American economist and international development expert who has served since March 2021 as Director-General of the World Trade Organization.

She is the first woman and the first African to hold the office. She sits on the boards of Standard Chartterd Bank, Twitter, Global Alliance for Vaccine and Immunization, and the African Risk Capacity (ARC).

Okonjo-Iweala had a 25-year career at theWorld Bank as a development economist, rising to the number two position of managing director, operations (2007–2011). She also served two terms as Finance Minister of Nigeria (2003–2006, 2011–2015) under Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan respectively.

She is married to Ikemba Iweala, a family medicine Physician from Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria.They have four children, including author Uzodinma Iweala.
