It is with no doubt the government is being pressurized by some parents and some students to reopen schools for learning, however, the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU) has advised the federal government to completely shut down all schools until 2020, stating that safety should definitely come first.
The president of the Union, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi who spoke in an interview with Sunday Punch news, noted that no reasonable government will take such chances, except parents are ready to sign an undertaking, while noting that safety should be the number one priority. The president of the Union furthermore revealed that a country like Kenya had suspended all school activities till next year, even though they have exams to write, while also adding that lives can't be taken for granted, as it seems very likely that schools are not ready to reopen.
Prof. Biodun also questioned if universities are ready to work, saying people shouldn't be experimented on during the wake of the COVID-19 which is increasing each day. He has thereby urged the federal government that if they can't ensure in its proper way for schools to be reopened, it will better to let it remain closed until 2021. What's your opinion towards this, do you support this idea, what do you think should be done to ensure schools be quickly reopened. Kindly put your thoughts in the comment section below
