The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, has told Nigerian doctors striving to go abroad that United Kingdom won't pay them hazard allowance. Osagie Ehanire maintained that United kingdom doesn't have anything like hazard allowance. He maintained that doctors in the UK only gets their normal salaries because hazard allowance is non-existent in that part of the world.
Ehanire made this statement in a speech at the Presidential Task Force, on COVID-19 briefing on Thursday. He assured medical doctors of the government's resolve to provide better welfare for the doctors in Nigeria.
Ehanire also spoke on the issue of some Nigerian doctors who were denied traveling to UK at Lagos Airport few days back. According to Ehanire, some of the doctors didn't even have Visas. Ehanire went on to say that many Nigerian doctors who are practicing in UK and America, occasionally come to Nigeria to offer some kind of services. He said that Nigerian doctors practicing in other countries has the moral obligation to give back to Nigerian society in one way or another.
Ehanire went on to state that Nigerian government doesn't have any policy which restrains any doctor from leaving the country, but other countries has such policies. He went to say that Nigeria is among the few countries that give hazard allowance.
