It's exiting and more interesting that Corps member of the "NYSC Batch B" have recently passed out of the service to Nigeria. Many of them in the past one year of service have been able to distinguished themselves from the others.
For the record, about 2137 Corps members have passed out from the 2019 Batch 'B' Stream 2 Service Year.
The event which was a low key activity was designed just to issue out Discharge Certificates to those who successfully completed the programmes amidst the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The truth is, The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) since its inception has been one of the programmes initiated by the Federal Government that offers opportunities for young people to explore. Most of the Corps members used the one year service to learn different things other than what they learnt while in school.
I was caught in an awe as a Corps member who served diligently and successfully has passed out of the service year with 4 certificates and have presented same to his mother, thanked her for having been consistent, contributed to building his capacity as a person and her child.
However, some Corps members service year in different States across the country has been extended as deterrent due to one issue or another. It's always a challenging moment right from the orientation course to posting of the intending Corps members to their primary place of assignment and the struggles to meet up with daily task at the place of work.
Despite all that, the case of Edwin Okon who just passed out from the service recently is quite different from every other Corps member. He took it to his Facebook to express his feelings after a successful service year. He uploaded all the certificates received by him during the one year service period.
See what he wrote;
"It's a wrap!!! Thank you Jesus, thank you Mom and Dad, mentors, colleagues, friends and relatives etc. I love you all...... Awaiting Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) induction/Certification soon. 😍😍😍"
The joy of being a graduate is quite different from what you experience after serving Nigeria under NYSC. This is actually what makes one a complete graduate and gives one an open window into the labour market.
Many people especially politicians have had issues in the course of their careers, just because they were alleged not to have had the NYSC discharged Certificate. Not only politicians, many people have lost their jobs in the same way.
So, it's important for you to have this Certificate secured very well in a place no one else would have access to, except you.
Meanwhile, below are the other certificates Edwin Okon has received aside from the NYSC discharged Certificate.
Also, these are some photos of him and his friends after the passing out parade;
Congratulations to all the NYSC Batch B set that passed out of the service year recently.
