House Panel questions NDDC on how it spent 81 billion Naira in 4 months

In the midst of this corona Pandemic, the central bank of Nigeria and the office of the Federation’s Accountant-General have decided to quiz the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) about their alleged illegal spending of funds between January 2020 to July 2020. The alleged money spent on the Niger delta region is amounted to Eighty two billion Naira.

The NDDC was also accused of not presenting its audited accounts to the senate for the year 2019. 

This accusations were leveled at an investigative panel held by the House Committee to filter the actions and doings of the NDDC. The chairmanship of the committee later confirmed that the NCDC’s illegal spending was being looked into.

According to the Panel, N1.3bn was spent on condolences, N122.9m on consultancy, N83m on COVID-19, N3.14bn on duty tour allowances, N486m on imprest, N790.9m on Lassa fever, N1.956bn on Legal services, N900m on maintenance, N220m on oversea travels on N85.6m; project public communication, N1.121 on security, N744m on staffing related payments, N248m on stakeholders engagement equating to almost 82 billion Naira.

This amount was allegedly spent between Feb 18 to May 31, 2020), N248m.
