Today is World Youth Skills Day, Here Are Top 5 Skills Every Youth Must Learn For Post-Covid19 Era

Good day readers,

Today is World Youth Skills day which is celebrated every 15th of July. The main aim for this day, which started in 2014 is to to achieve better socio-economic conditions for today's youth in terms of challenges of unemployment and under-employment.  The purpose of this event is to recognise the strategic importance of equipping young people with the skills of employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship. The day also highlights the important role of skilled youth in addressing current and future global challenges.

According to studies, more than 1 in 6 young people are out of work due to the Covid-19 pandemic. For this reason, it is necessary for them to be equipped with the skills to successfully manage upcoming challenges and therefore the resilience to adapt in any such future situations. In line this current situation across the globe, the theme of this year's event as given by UNESCO is;

"Skills For A Resilient Youth In The Era Of Covid-19 And Beyond"

Now to the focus of this piece, I'd be sharing briefly with you 5 skills that are not just reliable, but also sustainable even with lockdown. These skills are highly sought after in today's world and learning one or two of them is an essential survival tool for every young person. In no particular order, I give you my top 5

1. Copywriting

According to Wikipedia, copy writing is the act or occupation of writing text for the purpose of advertising or other forms of marketing. The product, called copy, or sales copy, is written content that aims to increase brand awareness and ultimately persuade a person or group to take a particular action.

  Copywriters help create billboards, brochures, catalogs, jingle lyrics, management  and newspaper advertisements, sales letters and other direct mail, scripts for television or radio commercials, taglines, white papers, social media posts, and other marketing communications.

Copy writing is one field I am particularly interested in as a creative and it has huge potentials. The required tools are a good understanding of English language, curiosity, an eye for detail and a creative mind, and all these cost nothing.

2. Graphics design

Graphics design is one highly marketed skill in today's world. Especially now that the world is mostly online, every organisation, company and even churches need designs for their events and online programs. Graphic designing is never out of demand and the better your skill and level of creativity, the more likely you are to get more jobs. All you need is your system and a sharp mind.

3. Network marketing

Network marketing has been made very popular in this part of the world, thanks to companies like Longrich and Oriflame. However, most people focus more on the marketing and lese on the network, which is where the real money is. For everyone in this field and those interested I'd advise you study what network marketing is really all about so you can get the most out of it. The system is built with people power and building a strong network (team) out of these people.

4. Programming, Web and App Development

The world is now digital, and this has extended to every sector of the economy. In the not too distant future no one may have to go to offices and markets because work is now online and grocery shopping is done over the internet. As we make these progressions in technology, the skills of software programming and the likes are in ever increasing demand. This is why every young person is encouraged to learn coding, even if it's just the basics. Contrary to popular belief coding isn't difficult and restricted to the computer genius, I have been learning it myself and it's going pretty smooth.

5. Digital marketing

Digital marketing covers a wide range of areas which include content marketing, e-mail marketing, social media marketing and search engine optimization (SEO). Digital marketing is basically the integration of technology with marketing, using the internet and technology to reach customers. In this period of lockdown where conventional marketing techniques cannot be carried out, digital marketing is what every successful business uses to stay afloat, making the skill highly lucrative.
