Farida Mzamber Waziri was born on 7 July 1949 and raised in Gboko , Benue State. She obtained a law degree from the University of Lagos and obtained a master's degree in Law from the Lagos State University. In 1996, she gained a master's degree in Strategic Studies from the University of Ibadan.

She rose to the position of AIG of Nigerian Police Force, after her retirement she was appointed the EFCC chairman during the first tenure of the then former Nigerian president Umaru Musa Yar'aduwa.
Following her appointed succeeding her predecessor former EFCC Boss Nuhu Ribadu, she was confirmed by the senate .
