The pain caused by the death of Nigeria's first female combat pilot Tolulope Arotile has refused to go away as people continue in mourning. Nigerians have asked one question after another and the answers so far have not been convincing enough to reduce the pain of her tragic death.
Just some months ago, her pictures came up online and Nigerians celebrated her and hopefully waiting for her exploits in future only to be greeted by the shocking news of her passing.
NAF Director of Public Relations and Information Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola while briefing the press on Sunday in Abuja gave the names of the former school mates who caused the death of Nigeria's shinning star Tolulope Arotile as Nehemiah Adeju, Mr Igbekele Folorunsho and Mr Feature Gbayegun.
According to him, they drove past her in Kia Sorento SUV with Registration no. AZ 478 MKA before reversing to say hello and knocking her down instead.
"Upon recognising their schoolmate, Arotile, after passing her, Mr Adeju who was driving, reversed the vehicle, ostensibly in an attempt to quickly meet up with the deceased, who was walking in the opposite direction. In the process, the vehicle struck Flying Officer Arotile from the rear, knocking her down with significant force and causing her to hit her head on the pavement. The vehicle then ran over parts of her body as it veered off the road beyond the kerb and onto the pavement causing her further injuries." Daramola said
He also stated that preliminary investigation have been carried out, below are screenshots of some of the findings:
Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola said that the NAF is a disciplined institution and that after investigations have been concluded, what needs to go out will be let out . He also said that the case will be brought before a court of competent jurisdiction.
Tolulope Arotile indeed fought a good fight in the short time she lived. Posterity will rate her highly and her marks will remain indelible.
