Some of the 50 persons arrested
During the early hours of Saturday, information reached the Kwara State technical committee on Covid-19 led by the deputy governor, Mr. Kayode Alabi that no less than few 50 youths were at a night club having fun, violating the set down rule laid down by the Kwara State Government which does not support social gatherings.
According to Dr. Oladimeji, the suspects were arrested and taken to Hajj Camp (Quarantine Centre). He said they made them comfortable in the night but in the morning, they took their blood samples for Covid-19 tests.
He said the arrest which is possible to lead to prosecution is to send a signal to the public that the Kwara State Government will not condone such misconduct. Dr. Femi Oladeji, the chairman, Medical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 stated that violations henceforth would attract a strong response from the Kwara State Government.
He said the ban on night clubbing remains the same to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the State. He pointed out that the arrested night clubbers violated the Kwara State Infectious Disease Regulations and the Kwara State Government’s ban on congregations with over 20 persons except for worship places.
