Officers of the Nigerian Police force in Lagos State have arrested three robbery suspects for crimes allegedly occurring at Awoyaya in Ibeju lekki area of Lagos State.

The confessional statement of one of the arrested suspects however drew attention as it could serve as a cautionary tale.

One if the suspects arrested, John Zion disclosed that his father rendered him homeless after his stepmother demanded that he should be sent packing.

Narrating his ordeal the suspect said, “I began sleeping in markets and mechanic workshops as a result of my father’s action. I met a lot of under-aged children there, some of who had run away from home, like me, and had nowhere to go.”

He added that it was during his homelessness that he came across an old school mate, Ola who dropped out from school in Jss3.

According to him, Ola provided him with shelter at his wooden residence which was located besides the beach in Ibeju Lekki. For the first time since he was homeless, John had a taste of home cooked meal.

The suspect further narrated his experience when said, “He promised to get me a job. It was in the second week that I was with him that I got to know that he and four others were into crime. I had participated in many robberies with the gang before I was arrested.”

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Bala Elkana confirmed the arrest of the 3 suspects who he said engaged the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in a gun battle before they were eventually captured and arrested.

A cut to size local pistol, 4 live cartridges and a snatched Tecno mobile Phone were recovered from the suspects.
