In continuation of the efforts of the Nigerian Army, to stamp banditry and untoward activities out of Northern region of the country, the Nigerian troops of the "Operation WHIRL STROKE", has again recorded a laudable successes against kidnap kingpins in Benue.
The Army .weia coordinator, Major General John Eneche made this disclosure on Friday via a Tweet. Eneche revealed that upon acting on credible intelligence on the activities of a notorious kidnap syndicate operating in the Logo local government of Benue state, the troops on Thursday, raided a suspected kidnappers den location at Tomayin village in Logo local governmentof Benue State.
The Troops were said to have had contact with the bandits, leading to exchange of fire as troops closed in on the hideout .The gallant troops responded equally with superior fire,n forcing the armed bandits to fled in disarray into the bushes.
As a result of the gun duel, one Zwa Ikyegh who is the ring leader of the notorious kidnappers, was killed, as others escaped with various degrees of gun shots wounds.
Moreover, it was a happy day for 32 kidnapped victims, as the Nigerian troops, rescued them, with some of them revealing that they've been in captivity for more than a month.
Also, the troops promptly mobilized to the scene of kidnapping incident in Austoma of Ukum local government, where another 2 kidnap suspects were arrested. The suspects are namely; Mr Sealemun and Orduem.
Three motorcycle, 1 AK 47 rifle, 1 AK 47 magazine, 6 locally made rifle, 1 locally made pistol and a magazine, 22 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, 2 cartridges and some charms, were recovered in total.
Moreover, the troops also took a step further by destroying the kidnappers hideouts, by setting it on fire.
