The Sambisa forest has being in existence for long, but attracted more popularity when it became the stronghold of Boko-Haram insurgents.  


The insurgents strategically choose the forest as hideout and its landmass harbours them perfectly. 


Size of the Sambisa forest according to environmentandsociety is Covering about 518 km² of landscape on a flatland.



Similarly, the convener of the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) group, Oby Ezekwesili, has said the Sambisa forest is 18 times as large as Lagos State.


Ezekwesili  Tweeting via her Twitter account spoke about the massive expanse of land the dreaded Boko Haram sect had been occupying for years.


According to her, the “Dreaded Sambisa is massive. 60,000 square kilometers. 18 times the size of Lagos State! All of Lagos is 3,345square km.
