The forensic Audit the Federal Government intends to carry on the Niger Delta Development Commission is already creating tension in the past and present management of the Niger Delta Development Commission. There has been alot of accusation and counter accusation over huge sums of money which were misappropriated in the commission.
Few days ago the former Managing Director of the commission Joi Nunieh who headed the Interim Management Committee of the commission gave details of what happened during her time as the MD of NDDC. She accused the Minister of Niger Delta and former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Godswill Akpabio of awarding contracts in the commission without due process. She said that Akpabio focused much attention on NDDC instead of the Niger Delta which he is in charge of. Mrs. Nunieh who was interviewed on Arise TV brought out papers to show what transpired between her and Akpabio. She also accused Akpabio of sexually harassing her. Godswill Akpabio on his own gave his account of the story on the same Arise TV. He stated Joi Nunieh has issues with her National Youth Service Corp as there is no record in the NYSC that she participated in the one year compulsory scheme. All these are coming up as the forsensic audit in the NDDC looks inevitable. Yesterday a drama played at the official residence of Joi Nunieh the Ex MD IMC of NDDC. The group of Police Personnel raided her residence as early as 4: am to arrest her. But such arrest failed following the intervention of the Executive Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency Nyesom who came to her residence with his security details to take her to the Government House where she is currently. According to Joi, the Police Officers tried to so hard to enter her house if not for the security door which prevented them. The video of how Wike came to her rescue has gone viral on the internet. Since then some Nigerians have been blaming the Honorable Minister of Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio for allegedly having hand in it.
Some are already blaming Akpabio for the Police that raided Joi Nunieh's residence. But Nigerians should not blame Akpabio for the action of the police officers at least for now. What we should know that in politics, anything can happen. Remember that Joi Nunieh was expected to appear at the House of Representative committee. Also, the Police officers never mentioned Akpabio as someone that sent them. There are other NDDC top officials who Joi accused of fraud in the commission, and they are likely to be after her. Although this matter can be likened to a case of witch crying at night, and baby dying in the morning. I will advise Joi Nunieh to write to the Inspector General of Police to investigate the raid of her residence by some police officers without any warrant of arrest. Then from there the Police Officers will explain the incident that led them to such unprofessional act and on whose instruction they acted. Thanks to Governor Wike for playing the role of a big brother here. He proved that he believes in the rule of law. Just like some Nigerians called him yesterday, Wike is a 'Superman'
What is your opinion in the raid of Joi Nunieh's residence at Portharcourt yesterday? Also, what do you think of Wike who came to her rescue?
