Update : the suspended EFCC chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Magu has been released from detention

Mr. Ibrahim Magu was arrested on Monday, July 6, 2020. He was accused of insubordination and re-looting of recovered funds.

However, after spending ten days in police custody, Mr. Ibrahim Magu was released on Wednesday, July 15, 2020.

Mr. Magu said that the allegations against him were fabricated and his detention, a case of dog-eat-dog. Adding that what happened to him is one of the risks of the job of fighting against corrupt persons, he urged Nigerians not to give up on the fight but rather support President Muhammadu Buhari to eradicate corruption.

His lawyer, Mr. Tosin Ojaomo confirmed that his client has been released. He said that the detention of Mr. Magu at the force criminal investigation department, FCID, was illegal. He also claimed that the investigators sent by the panel found nothing incriminating in Magu's house.

He said that Mr. Magu does not sign for money and cheques in EFCC and so cannot be seen to be keeping such alleged amount of money at home.
