What is our society turning into? Is it a crime to be a female? Should females be banned from social and outdoor activities? Are the laws meant for the elites alone? All these are some of the questions that may be going through the minds of many whenever it comes to the issue of rape. It seems the society is no longer safe for citizens, especially the females who are mostly the victims of rape. How long is this going to last? Keeping quiet is no longer an option because to do so is to partake in evil and that is why the Kano State House of Assembly has decided to take the bull by its horn by proposing serious penalty for rapists.
The Kano State House of Assembly, on Wednesday, has commenced the motion to further amend the State’s Penal Code amendment (No.12), the law of 2014, so as to provide for castration, as penalty for rape offenders or rapists in the state. However, the Assembly made the proposal, following a motion presented on Wednesday by a member, Nuraddeen Al-hassan, representing Rano Local Government Area requesting for the review of the law and a good number of the Assembly members shared the same opinion because the current 14 years jail-term punishment for offenders seems not to be enough.
Fellow Nigerians, do you think this punishment is too small or too harsh for rapists? Please share your opinion(s).
