Breaking News: Supreme Court affirms 12 yrs jail term of Ex-Governor of Taraba State, Jolly Nyame

The Supreme Court of Nigeria on Friday 7th February 2020 has affirmed the 12 years prison term of the former governor of Taraba State, Reverend Jolly Nyame for diverting N1.64bilion during his tenure as Taraba State governor between 1999 to 2007.

However, the 100m fine imposed on him by the Court of Appeal has been unanimously set aside by a five-man panel led by Honourable Justice Mary Odili.

It will be recalled that Honourable Justice Adebukola Banjoko of an Abuja High Court found Nyame guilty on 27 out of the 41count charges against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and accordingly sentenced him to 14 years imprisonment which was subsequently reduced to 12 years, Five years, Four years and one year and nine months running concurrently with fines ranging from N100m to N5m by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
