American billionaires, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates were among those that had their twitter accounts hacked last night in a well coordinated bitcoin scam.
Twitter said it was a well planned attack that targeted its employees with access to internal tools and systems.
The hackers used this access to hack the accounts of many high profile individuals and took control howbeit briefly asking people to "send Bitcoins to a certain account and they'll be doubled" in a bid to give back to society.
New reports just coming in say these people made up to $7.8 billion in that short while.
Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey said it's a tough day and the situation will be adequately like into.
A cybersecurity expert, Dr. Alex Drew said "it could have been worse if it was in the middle of a crisis and the Twitter accounts of prominent individuals were used to either communicate de-escalatory language or critical information to the public.
In a bid to control this, Twitter had to stop many verified accounts from tweeting altogether.
Dmitri Alperovich said this is the worst hack of a major social media platform yet.
