Affected elders in Ilorin worry about the alleged increase in crime rate in the ancient city of Ilorin, Kwara.
This development was caused by outbreaks of hostility among young people in the Alore region, which was associated with alleged increases in purchasing cannabis sativa, Igbo or weed in the region.
The protesting youths, some of whom had left two days ago, registered their anger by destroying unsuspecting residents' property that allegedly was seduced by drug dealers to cut costs.
Former Secretary of State of the Nigerian Christian Association (CAN), Dr.Olusola Ajolore,Ilorin's chief Imam, Alhaji Mohamed Bashir, have rejected this sad development and attributed it to the inability of parents to give their children and their communities high moral standards.
Ajolore said to news men,It is sad,We must react in time to avoid spreading this bad habit among young people. This is our future, but they must take on a Christlike character to make this city peaceful,Parents in particular must increase their responsibilitirs to their children.
Bashir said, "Ilorin was not like this in the past. Some of these young people imitate bad gangs and must remain silent.Parents must complete our efforts in this matter.
Responding to the development, state police spokesman Ajayi Okasanmi DSP said the team would be notified of the development, but promised swift action against anyone who committed crimes in any part of the city to deter others.
Okasanmi, who warmly described the relationship between state para-militaries and the military, said officials of the National Narcotics Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) would take action "if that was true".
