Evans the Millionaire kidnapper.
I am of the opinion that the reason a problem persists is because someone
or a group of people are benefiting from the continued existence of that problem. In other words the twiin siblings, greed and sefishness are at the foundation of any lingering problem.
Kidnapping seems to be here to stay in Nigeria because the spate of this evil act is not showing any signs of dropping. With the king of kidnappers Evans' reeling shocking confessions of how much he collected from his victims over a long period of time, it is likely a 2nd career for criminally minded ones.
HOW DOES THE POLICE FORCE IN THE WESTERN WORLD HANDLE KIDNAPPING?
Kidnap for ransom cases in the Western World are rare because the Police and other arms of their Government work together to ensure that those kidnappers are found and brought to book. Also, the use of currency notes is not as widespread as it is here in Nigeria. What usually happens though is petty criminals round up on their victims usually at ATMs and force them to withdraw cash for them at gunpoint.
The use of security cameras also serves as a deterrent to would be kidnappers in developed countries.
HOW TO TRAP KIDNAPPERS WITH THE RANSOM MONEY HERE IN NIGERIA.
RECORDING THE SERIAL NUMBER OF THE RANSOM MONEY.
The case study would be the popular and sad kidnap of the Lindberg baby in 1932 .
The baby boy was kidnapped from his bedroom in his parents’ house by a German immigrant who left a ransom note asking for $50,000. In connivance with the bank, the ransom money’s serial numbers were noted before the kidnappers got it.
It took a couple of months before the currency started popping up and it was used to trace the kidnapper who was subjected to death by lethal injection . You can Google the Lindberg baby story to get the whole story.
Before victims' families drop off the ranson money to these kidnappers, the bank would allow withdraw them cash which the serial numbers would have been noted. Or allow them withdraw cash that follows a serial range. They would distribute these numbers circumspectly to known retail outlets and other banks incase someone spends them. Those spending these money can lead a trail back to the kidnappers.
If this one line of action had been taken by the Nigerian Police Force in conjunction with the banks, kidnappers would no longer be in business in Nigeria.
Except if there is a connivance between the kidnappers and an insider, this is one way the kidnapping menace in Nigeria can be put to a full and final stop.
How else can we stop kidnapping in Nigeria?
