Two men, who the police said specialized in snatching motorcycles at gunpoint in Ijebu-Ode and its environs were on Monday arrested by men of Ogun State police command.

They were arrested while making efforts to snatch another motorcycle, it was learnt.

A statement by Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, identified the suspect as Joshua Michael, 27 and Emeka Nwanga, 26.

Oyeyemi said they were arrested following a distress call received by the DPO Ilese-Ijebu that armed robbers were about to snatch a motorcycle from its owner around Ikangba Estate, Ijebu-Ode.

Upon the distress call, the PPRO informed that the DPO, SP Olusesi Kayode, immediately mobilized his anti-robbery team to the scene.

Sighting the policemen, the suspects were said to have taken to their heels, but were hotly chased and apprehended with the help of members of the public.

“The motorcycle rider and his machine were rescued from the bandits," Oyeyemi confirmed.

Police said a locally made double-barreled pistol was recovered from the suspect.

The suspect is to be investigated by the SARS unit of the command, the Ogun Commissioner of Police, CP Kenneth Ebrimson has ordered.
