Court Sentence 2 Students To 18 Months In Prison In Jos

A High District Court, which met in Kasuwan Nama in Jos on Friday, sentenced two students to 18 months in prison each for extortion of mobile phones worth 20,000 N.

Police charged Aliyu Ibrahim,18 and Umar Abubakar,18 with conspiracy and extortion.

Ibrahim and Abubakar pleaded guilty and asked for clemency.

The judge, Lawal Suleiman, gave the convicted persons the opportunity to pay a fine of 40.000 N each.

Suleiman advised the convicted people to face their studies and not to participate in crimes.

Previously, the prosecutor, Inspt. Ibrahim Gokwat informed the court that the case was reported to the Laranto police station in September. 14 by the plaintiff Hamza Mohammed from Agwan Rogo Jos.

Gokwat said that the convicts had confessed to the conspiracy and used a long knife to extort the telephone of the complainant from him.

In his view, the offence violated the provisions of sections 58 and 276 of the Penal Code.
