Surrender Your Rifles And Get Two Cows, Zamfara Governor Tells Bandits

The Zamfara State Governor, who made the announcement when he received Police Inspector General Mohammed Adamu, State Security Services Department Director General Yusuf Bichi and other heads of military and police intelligence services, said the state bandits will be given two cows for every rifle they hand over.

Matawalle added that they will not give money to the bandits because they will use it to buy new weapons.

He said;

"For every rifle presented by a repentant bandit, there will be compensation of two cows.

"We don't want to give them money, so they won't use it to buy new weapons.

"We said we would compensate them with cows, they are Fulani and they need the cows to promote their economic interests.

"We also told the repentant bandits that all "dabas" (camps) in the forests should be dissolved. We do not accept a situation where bandits disarm and then return to the forest and stay in these camps or dabas.

"We asked them to come to the city and reintegrate into society or to gain economic power where they are, so that they could start a new life.

"Most of them live in forests under the shade of trees and in caves. That is why we have developed RUGA's policy to help them.

The governor, who described Zamfara state as the epicentre of armed banditry in the country, said the entire northwest and the country in general would be safe if security forces could deal with the threat.
