2 reasons why this 19-year-old girl probably joined a cult group 10 years ago(Opinion)

The 19-year-old girl who was identified as Blessing David alongside her contemporary Ada Emeka was found in a cult group. She is a native of Benin City, Edo State.

The name of the Cult group is Marine Girls. As of today, July 16th, Blessing David confessed to the Police officers what she experienced during her initiation into the cult group 10 years ago.

She said that she was initiated or introduced into the Cult group called "Marine Girls", and that the group was made mainly for girls.

It is unfortunate, that she had to perform some bad rites during her initiation. However, I can say that she got what she deserved because she was the one who joined a Cult group.

However, here are 2 reasons why I think she joined the cult group;

(1) Peer pressure: She might have joined the cult group as a result of peer pressure. In each school, there are different types of children from different homes with different characters. So, it could be possible that she had a friend who is in that cult group that lured her into the group. I can testify to it, that it is not possible for a child to go to schools without being faced with challenges like peer pressure. Peer pressure is one of the challenges, each parent needs to educate their children on, so as to know the right way to overcome peer pressure.

(2) She might have joined the cult group because of power. It could be that she is having a quarrel with someone at that particular time, and it has been possible that the person is also in a cult group and always disturb her. So she too might think that she needs the power to fight back. Nobody wants people to look down on us and use their power on us. But, that is not the right course to follow, it would have been better if we report to higher authorities either in the school or in society, rather than fighting back by ourselves.

My advice to parents is that we should enlighten our children about the dangers of cultism. We should let them know that it is not a good association where we find good children. I want all parents to know that most of our children learn from us, even though not all children follow the path of their parents. But let us all endeavor, to make sure that we practice what we want our children to do.
