A Nigerian man has been sentenced to 1 month in prison for stealing plantain. The case took place at an Osun State Magistrate Court sitting in Ile-Ife, Osun State. The man is identified as Maruf Ojo. Mr Ojo was sentenced to one-month in prison for stealing plantain worth N55,000.
According to reports, Ojo was charged with a one-count of stealing. The sentencing was over seen by A. A. Adebayo. According to report, Ojo stole the bunches of plantain, belonging to Mr Oladipupo Sunday. Ojo committed the offense at Oke-Ora Village via Ile-Ife, Osun State.
After hearing the charges levelled against Ojo, his defence counsel, Mrs Omoyeni Tosin, pleaded with the magistrate to temper justice with mercy. Mrs Omoyeni stated that her plea is based on the fact that Ojo was a first time offender.
After hearing the plea from Ojo's counsel, Magistrate A. A. Adebayo noted that he has considered the fact that Ojo was a first time offender. However, Adeboye stated that Ojo must face some kind of punishment. Ojo was found guilty and was sentenced to 1 month in prison with an option of 1,000 Naira fine.
