A defendant who was arraigned in an Osun state magistrate court today for stealing plantain was sentenced to jail.
The suspect, Maruf Ojo was arrested following allegations that he stole plantain worth N55,000 from a victim identified as Mr. Oladipupo Sunday on the 17th of July, 2020. He was thereafter charged to court on a one count charge of stealing.
Presiding over the case was Magistrate Adebayo. Inspector Sunday who identified himself as the police persecutor confirmed the incident during the court sitting. Maruf Ojo however pleaded guilty to the charge whilehis defense counsel pleaded with Magistrate Adebayo to temper justice with Mercy. Giving his judgement, the Magistrate noted that although Maruf was a first time offender justice still had to take it place. He therefore sentenced the Maruf to one month in jail with the option of N1,000 fine.
