Many stories have been told but few of them are interesting and inspiring, such as this particular one tagged "Kiss of Life." This story proved that we can save life without money or medical equipment. One of the greatest and historic pictures was taken in 1967 by a photojournalist called Rocco Morabito in an accidental scene.
Back in 1967, two electrical engineers by the name of Randall G. Champion and D.J. Thompson were making a routine maintenance on a pole in Jacksonville, Florida, when the unexpected happened. Champion, who was on the top of the pole, was electrocuted by a low voltage line and lost consciousness at the moment. Fortunately, his safety harness protected him from falling off and Thompson, who was working on another line, grabbed him and made a quick life-saving decision.
He immediately performed a mouth-to-mouth resuscitation by breathing oxygen into his lungs for pulse. After some minutes, Champion had a slight pulse and Thompson carried him down on his shoulder to do a Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on him while waiting for medical paramedics to arrive. After some administration by the medical team, he survived and lived for 35 years before his death in 2002 at the age of 64.
How the picture came into existence
According to the photojournalist, Morabito, he was passing the street with his car in search of content when the incident occurred. He immediately took out his camera and snapped more than 10 photos before calling the medical teams that arrived. He won the 1968 Pulitzer Prize for Spot News Photography for “The Kiss of Life."
After the scene, the two electricians and Morabito became close friends and famous in the world. The photo was published in most newspapers in the world and went down in history as one of the most iconic photos ever.
