The First Skyscraper Ever Built In The World & Why It Was Demolished Years After It Was Built

There are many skyscrapers in the world today, some of them are very high in the sky. There are also skyscrapers in Nigeria, no doubt about that. Have you ever thought of the first-ever skyscraper in the world and where it was located and how it was built and why it was built? The first skyscraper in the world was built in 1885 in Chicago, USA.

The name of the skyscraper was the Home Insurance Building, and it was designed by William Le Baron. The construction of the building started in 1884 and was completed the next year which was 1885. It was a very strong structure that was erected with steel, metal, and likewise concrete.

The building initially had 10 storeys, and it was built as an office for insurance duties. The building was carefully designed and was very strong which made it the first skyscraper ever built in the world. Before any other skyscraper was built, the Home Insurance Building was already existing.

According to reports, the building was 138ft tall, not until 2 floors were added to the building making it a total of 12 floors. The building was originally built with 10 floors, but 2 floors were added to it in 1891. The building had several offices to carry out daily official activities. In 1931, the Home Insurance building was demolished, that's 46 years after it was erected. It was demolished because it occupied space that can be used to build modern buildings.

After it was demolished, another taller building was built in the same spot some years later. There was the first skyscraper in the world, but it is no more due to advancement in technology. Thanks for reading my piece, please like, share, and follow me up.
