On Thursday, September 30, 2021, the Ondo government presented Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the Minister of Interior, with a gift of excellence.
The prize was presented to Aregbesola by the State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, who was represented at the event by his Chief of Staff, Chief Gbenga Ale. The event took place at the Ondo State Cultural Centre in the state.
Governor Akeredolu, who presented Aregbesola with the award, praised the Minister's efforts to market Yoruba culture, particularly during his tenure as Governor of Osun State from 2010 to 2018.
Aregbesola's belief in cultural revival, as well as his efforts to market Yoruba culture, he said, made him eminently suitable for the prize.
Also speaking through the organisers, Akeredolu, who is the Chairman of the South West Governors Forum, said the award was given to Aregbesola for his immaculate achievements. Aregbesola was very supportive of the quest to elevate the Yoruba anthem to the stature of state anthem by Aregbesola's regime in Osun State. Not only that, but he also actively promoted the Omoluabi ethos, human rights and equal recognition of the three major religious beliefs within the state during his term.
He urged the Minister to not hand over his efforts to market Yoruba cultural values, and he promised that Ondo State won't allow the Yoruba culture to fade into obscurity.
Aregbesola, a two-term Governor of Osun State, spoke about culture because of the characteristics of human existence, defining it as knowledge, virtue, and productivity.
Aregbesola, who emphasised the importance of Yoruba culture development, stated that the Yoruba race is endowed with valuable culture and tradition.
The Minister, who observed the considerable value placed on Yoruba culture outside the country's borders, stated that if Yoruba land's cultural legacy and tourist destinations are adequately nurtured, the country will reap enormous economic benefits.
Aregbesola offered a case for cultural revival in this regard, also urging people to shift their attitudes and beliefs regarding culture. The
Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, was also praised by the Minister for his belief in Yoruba culture, which resulted in the adoption of the Yoruba anthem because of the state anthem.
Aregbesola described Akeredolu as a liberal who has shown him love and keenness, adding that the governor isn't confrontational in any way.
Governor Akeredolu, he added, may be a liberal and understanding leader who supports the Yoruba nation. The adoption of the Yoruba anthem as the state's official anthem demonstrates this. The Governor is a superb Yoruba representative.
