Recently, it had become public and widespread that the SIM purchase and registration had been suspended to prevent some improprieties. But the government has come up with a better option.
The federal government has accepted that Mobile Network Operators can now register at the available centres which are close to them in all the local government of the country.
This was communicated by the Press following the meeting held on the 3rd of March, 2021.
It was agreed upon in the meeting that:
✓ approval was given to Mobile Network Operators for the establishment of dedicated SIM swap.
✓ approval was given for the extension of the tenure of NIN enrolment Agents Licenses for MNOs from 1 to 5 years in consideration of their satisfactory performance, subject to continuous monitoring.
✓ the technical committee was mandated to complete the development of a new SIM issuance strategy that cannot be compromised. This will ensure that there is no repeat of the past process that was compromised.
This news was confirmed and signed by the Director of Public Affairs Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde and the Head of Cooperate Communications, Mr. Kayode Adegoke, in a circular letter released through the Press.
