You know that feeling you get when you start something new, how enthusiastic and excited you feel at that point. It could be a diet or a new skill, you understand that you need consistency to get results from this. This is something a lot of us struggle with.
We get tired along the way and eventually give up even though we really want to achieve that thing. When we think about it, we feel really sad and sometimes try to start again. If you are in this situation, here are a few tips to help you form that consistent habit that you need.
1. Don't Expect Quick Results
A lot of us start up new things and expect results immediately we start. We push ourselves really hard at the beginning and we wear ourselves down, that's part of why we give up quickly.
When you want to start something, take your time, do it slowly and don't expect anything at the beginning. It's not how far but how well.
2. Be Specific
You should know exactly what you want and how you want to do it. Don't just build castles in air and start working with that. Actually plan it out, know if it's realistic or if it's absurd.
Write down the steps you would need to take to achieve that thing. That way your mind knows that you are working towards achieving realistic goals.
3. Create A Schedule
You should create a time in your busy day that you will dedicate to working on whatever it is you have planned to achieve. Let there be an allocated time for that thing and make sure you follow through with it. One Important thing is to not go over the top with your allocated time.
Don't say you'll use five hours to do that thing, you'll get bored and stressed out. You could start with 30 minutes, the next day one hour. Anything above two hours will be too much. You could do 2 hours in the morning, two more in the evening but don't try 4 hours at a go.
4. Set Reminders
If you have the to-do list app on your smartphone, you could set Reminders, or use sticky notes. Paste it in obvious places so you'll continuously be reminded that you need to do something. Soon enough you won't need but for the starting point, you do.
5. Reward Yourself
You know how feel when you get rewarded for achieving something. How you feel energized to do more. When you meet your target for the week or month, reward Yourself. That way you'll have something to look forward to Everytime.
This will make the whole process really fun for you. But don't use a week off as your reward, you are just weakening your consistency.
Try these tips out and please share, you don't know who might need to read this.
