Here's The Reason Why Commercial Banks Blocked MTN Users From Using USSD Services

The advent of digital technology has really improved the overall standard of living of mankind, all over the planet. I don't need to talk much about this. We all know and can feel the impact of technology in our various lives.

As Nigerians, one of the ways we enjoy technology is the ability to recharge our airtime through the Virtual Top-Up (VTU) channels through our bank accounts. This has been on from time immemorial till we heard that MTN subscribers can no longer recharge their phones through bank codes, apps or other VTU channels.

Although, I didn't had issues with the development since I haven't recharged for some days now, but I believe a lot of people were affected. The goodnews is that the channels has been restored, according to a news report released by the Nation Newspaper, earlier today.

The timely intervention of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economics, Isa Pantami; and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele; saved the day.

Based on a report by The Nation, the main reason why commercial banks blocked MTN users' access to USSD functions was due to the reduction of bank's commission from 4.5 percent to 2.5 percent by the MTN management. Anyways, NIgerians don't have to worry for now, as it seem all issues have been settled.

Readers, what are your thoughts on this? Does this reason worth blocking users from recharging from their banks? Drop your opinions in the comments section!
