Sergei Shoigu says Moscow will not take advantage of opening of Ukrainian ports

Turkish, Russian defense ministers meet before expected grain deal | Daily Sabah

Moscow has stated that it will follow the terms of the grain agreement struck with Ukraine on Friday in Istanbul.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu stated that his nation will not "take advantage" of the demining and opening of Ukrainian ports, which are part of a UN-brokered arrangement to restart essential grain shipments.

"We have accepted the commitments explicitly stated in this text." We will not take advantage of the ports being cleaned and opened. "We have made this pledge," Shoigu said following the signing ceremony in Istanbul on the state TV station Rossiya-24.

Russia and Ukraine struck separate deals with Turkey and the United Nations that might save millions of lives by allowing millions of tonnes of badly needed Ukrainian grain, as well as Russian grain and fertiliser, to be exported.

The steps bring an end to a standoff that has jeopardised global food security. The US immediately stated that it would try to hold Russia accountable for executing the agreement.
