President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday unveiled the e-Naira.

Buhari launched the country’s digital currency at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The event had in attendance the Vice President, Yemi Osibanjo; Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele; Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami; among others.

DAILY POST recalls that the digital currency was billed to be unveiled on October 1 but was shifted due to activities on Independence Day.

The country’s apex bank had said the e-Naira is a culmination of several years of research work in advancing the boundaries of payments system in order to make financial transactions easier.

CBN noted that the launch of the digital currency is a major step forward in the evolution of money.

The bank vowed to ensure that the e-Naira, like the physical Naira, is accessible by everyone.

Ikpeazu to swear in new commissioners on Tuesday

The Abia State Government has announced Tuesday, 26th October 2021, for the inauguration of the new commissioners appointed by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.

This came as the State House of Assembly recently concluded the screening and confirmation of the nominees sought by the governor, which was contained in a letter sent to the House leadership.

The formal inauguration, according to a press release by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barrister Chris Eze, made available to journalists on Monday, holds at Michael Okpara University Auditorium, in Umuahia, the state capital.

The state council meeting will precede the inauguration of commissioners-designate at Michael Okpara Auditorium of Government House, Umuahia, by 2 pm on the same day.

The Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has said whoever wants to become the next president of Nigeria must negotiate with the northern region of the country.

Rivers not at war with FG over tax collection – Gov Wike

Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike of Rivers State has said that the state is not at war with Nigera or any of its components over the dispute on the authority to collect Value Added Tax (VAT) as being insinuated in some quarters.

Wike however said emphatically that Rivers State is not a slave to the Federal Government and would continue to pursue what is right and legitimate within the ambit of the constitution.

The governor, who spoke at a public lecture on “Taxing Powers in a Federal System” held in Abuja, insisted that Rivers and the Federal Government are co-equal because they derived their life from the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria

He spoke through the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Professor Zacheus Adangor, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
