As Africa Most Populated Country, Nigeria Is An Important Market For Turkish Exporters & Investors

The Ottoman Empire, and Empire Kanem-Bornu Empire rekindle their long lost romance that dated hundreds of years. Yes. A treaty of friendship and trade between the Ottoman and Kanem Bornu Empires was signed between the two states in 1555-1556.

According to a report by Punch, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, upon his arrival at Abuja International Nnamdi Azikwe Airport, was greeted by Nigerian Foreign Minister Geoffery Onyeama, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Ankara İsmail Yusuf Abba and Turkey’s Ambassador to Abuja Hidayet Bayraktar.

Turkey aims to boost cooperation in defense industry with Nigeria, along with dialogue on energy and political issues with Nigeria, the Turkish envoy in Abuja said Turkey is in cooperation with Nigeria on many different areas spanning from economy to defense industry.

Nigeria is Turkey's top trading partner in Sub-Saharan Africa with a trading volume of $754 million in 2020, which is expected to rise to more than $1 billion. Nigeria is among Turkey's oil and gas suppliers. As Africa's largest economy and most populated country, the envoy said, Nigeria is an important market for Turkish exporters and investors.
