The Nigerian Breweries Plc, a company that Brews and Markets Alcoholic and Non Alcoholic Products were recognised as the Biggest Tax payer thus bagging the Kaduna Government Highest Tax Payer Award for the year 2020 much to the surprise of people who have come across the news.
Recall that some Northern States which Comprises of Kano, Bauchi, Kaduna, Jigawa, Yobe among others came up with the Sharia law some years ago and this law was made to checkmate the activities of people staying in the North on what they do, how they dress and their daily lifestyle.
Meanwhile, Kano state most and few other states have stirred reactions from people who see how their Hisbah police Operate. Recently, Kano state was on the front line of criticism as the state funded Hisbah Police have been invading Bars and Restaurants to destroy alcoholic drinks found in their possession such that people wonder why they made this rule despite benefiting from the revenue that comes from sale of Alcoholic drinks.
However, Dr. Zaid Abubakar, the Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADRIS), he made it known Nigeria Breweries is one of the committed companies who see it as a point of responsibility to pay their tax as and when due thus contributing to the development of the state.
While receiving the award on Behalf of the company, Mr Ajayi who is the Kaduna Manager of the Company revealed that the Nigeria Breweries have remitted a sum of 1.4billion Naira to the Kaduna Government between 2018 and 2020 as PAYE, Levies and also paid a sum of 315 Million Naira to the Kaduna Water Corporation as Water Bill since 2016 till date.
