The UK Government credited the Federal Government's account with £4,214,017.66 looted funds which was recovered from family members and associates of former Delta State Governor James Ibori.

The spokesman to the Minister of Justice, Dr Umar Gwandu in a statement, quoted the AGF as confirming the receipt of the recovered loot. He stressed that “Malami signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the refoulement of the Ibori loot on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria”.
Meanwhile, Malami said “the development was a demonstration of the acknowledgement of prestige Nigeria earns through records of proper administration of recuperated stolen Nigeria funds in the discharge of public-oriented projects.

However, there was a dispute as to who should be in possession of the funds when the UK Government returns it.
"The money should be returned to Delta”, Activist-lawyer Femi Falana said.

He further stated that the Federal Government could not convert the revovered sum under local and international law.
