One of the widely demanded spices in Nigeria is Crayfish. This is because it is used in every dish we eat. Cray Fish also sells faster than the everyday fish we buy in the market. This shows that crayfish are highly demanded and has a very large market base. In this article, I will explain how to source, store and sell your crayfish. So, without further ado here is what you need to do to start a crayfish business.
The first thing you need to put into consideration before starting a crayfish business is sourcing for the product. You can source crayfish from the following states; Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Delta. The reason for this is that they are riverine areas and accessing crayfish is easy. There is no constant price for a bag of crayfish but you can buy a bag not more than N30,000.
The next thing you should do after buying your crayfish is to preserve it. When preserving your crayfish make sure where you are keeping it is dry and cool. When you have your crayfish in bags make sure you keep them on a wooden plank so that it neither touches the floor or the wall. Crayfish are not supposed to touch the floor or the wall, because this can damage the product. Also, don't store up your crayfish for more than 3months, this is because the value of the crayfish will reduce.
Finally, after buying and storing, the next thing you need to do is to sell it. The easiest place to sell your crayfish is in your local market. There are market women that are willing to buy the crayfish from you and then sell it in the market. So, you can start this business with as low as N30,000 as a retailer, but if you want to be a wholesaler you will need up to N250,000.
