The Governor of Katsina State has criticized some states in Southern Nigeria over their stance on Value added tax, vat collection. The states include: Rivers and Lagos States. According to the Governor both Lagos State and Rivers State are nothing without the north
Governor Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and Governor Nyesom Wike want to take over the collection of vats in their states from the federal government. A court in Abuja has ordered that the two states should maintain status quo and allow the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Firs to collect Vat in the two states pending a court hearing of the case.
However, Governor Bello Masari of Katsina State has lampooned his Southern counterparts calling them jokers. According to him "What is Lagos and Rivers State without the North and other states?"
According to Daily Post his statement partly reads" What is Lagos without the other parts of Nigeria? The market is boasting of is dependent on the larger part of the country. Benin Republic has a port, Togo has a port. But do they have the population to back up the ports? Without us providing the demand part, what will be Lagos?
However, it should be said here that Governor Bello Masari is right to say some southern states namely: Lagos and Rivers States are nothing without the north and other parts of Nigeria because Lagos and Rivers may have the market but other parts of the country provide the population that demand for the goods. So we all need one another whether north or south.
