How EFCC's Denial Of Seizing Diamond Bra From Deiziani Has Revealed The Dark Side Of Media Trial

The trial of former petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke had recently taken a rather surprising turn some weeks ago when news filtered in that a diamond-encrusted Brazier was included in one of the items seized from her.

Although the information was not released by the EFCC, the news gathered steam and quickly went viral raking up comments and opinions about that wonderbra.

Even some renowned online news platforms were caught in the frenzy as they all made inputs and gave opinions about this piece of item now nicknamed the "heavenly star" bra rumoured to have cost about $12.5 million.

While the origin of this information is not known, the recent denial by the EFCC chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa of the existence of this bra has once again, revealed how social media trials can quickly flip a story and create either a hero or a villain in no less time.

This was also noted by Bawa as he revealed that the commission has always advised the need to avoid any kind of media trails and instead, focus on the facts.

While the news of the heavenly bra trended, a cross-section of Nigerians had made a lot of permutations calculating the worth of the bra and the worth of other items seized from the woman.

What this new information will do in this case is that it has a tendency to skew Justice and earn the woman compassion from a cross-section for Nigerians as they will now be more questions to know if indeed, other times were also wrongly added to the list.

While it has been established that the former minister has some questions to answer with the anti-graft agency, creating this fictitious tale around the multi-million dollar Bra has drawn more attention to the woman and really created a kind of following from Nigerians eager to know more about this case.

This topic has trended well over 3 weeks now and this sudden twist by the Anti-graft agency will instead, create more questions about other expensive items seized from the former petroleum minister.

If the EFCC had immediately debunked the information about 24hours when it leaked to the public, the situation would have been properly managed without much fuss and social media interests.
