CBN Postpones The launch of the 'e-naira' digital currency

The Nigerian Central Bank (CBN) has delayed the official launch of the digital currency, e-Naira.

According to CBN spokesman, Osita Nwanisobi, the decision to postpone the opening of e-Naira, which is scheduled for October 1, was made to avoid disruption from the celebration of the 61st Independence Day.

However, CBN has convinced Nigerian people that banks and other partners would work to ensure a smooth process for all the benefit.

Meanwhile, there is no new date announced for launch.

Recall that, a previous report by Cryptotvplus suggested that the launch of the CBDC will now be delayed by the legal challenges reported to have been filed against the CBN by Enaira payment solution. In it's challenge, the Enaira payment solution, which was founded in 2004, confirmed that it was the legal holder and the legal trademark of the ENAIRA.

Therefore, to protect himself from the consequences of "illegal act" by CBN, the company said it has since approached High Court where it hoped to get a restraining order against the central bank. However, the company has warned CBN not to "use or claim to use the name of the Enaira for its products or in other ways."
