President Buhari unveils Nigeria digital currency, eNaira.

President Muhammadu Buhari, has unveiled the Nigeria digital currency, called eNaira. The president unveiled the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), on Monday, October 25.

The event was attended by the vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and many others. 

The unveiling of the eNaira was scheduled to hold on October 1, but it was postponed to October 25, because of the activities of Independence Day. 

The Central Bank of Nigeria stated that the unveiling of the digital currency is a major step forward in the evolution of money. It ensured that the eNaira, just like physical Naira, would be accessible to everyone, especially those living in the rural areas. 

The Director of Corporate Communications of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Osita Nwanisobi, said that the eNaira is among the first in the world. He said that the authorities have put measures in place to deal with any issues that might arise from the pilot implementation of the eNaira.
