The Governor of Kastina State, Aminu Bello Masari recently stated that northern states are responsible for Lagos and Rivers economic development. He went further and spoke against collection of Value Added Tax, VAT, by different states.
Based on this statement that was made by Governor Masari, I think he is right. Why did I think so? The main reason why I think so is because of their population.
We all know that the north has the population and population is very for any economic development. In Nigeria today, most northerners come to Lagos State to buy goods, then transport their goods back to there various states to sale them. By so doing, they are helping Lagos State economically. Indeed, a tree can never make a forest.
On the other hand, if you enter Lagos State or Rivers State today, there are northerners and people from other states doing business in Lagos and Rivers States and that will definitely help the economy of these two states to grow.
If northerners who often come to Lagos to buy goods decide to stop and those who are doing business in Lagos and Rivers also stop, Lagos State IGR will definitely reduce.
Just like I said before, a tree can't make a forest, so I really think that Lagos and Rivers States need the north to progress economically and the north also need Lagos and Rivers States too. The best thing we need to do now is to work together as a united country so as to move the country forward.
Lastly, I want Nigerians to understand that United we stand and divided we fall. God bless Nigeria.
I know that so many people will definitely kick against what I have just said here, but the point here is that we all are entitled to our individual opinions and I have just aired my own opinion here.
