The institutions awarding National Innovative Diploma (NID) are known as Innovative Enterprise Institutions (IEIs). There are currently one hundred and sixty nine IEIs listed by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). Only five of these institutions are owned by state governments. The remaining one hundred and sixty four belong to federal government and private organizations. Here are the state owned UEIs.
The oldest state-owned IEI in Nigeria is Gateway Industrial Petrogas Institute (GIPI). GIPI is located at Oni in Ijebu Waterside Local Area of Ogun State. This institution was established by an act of the state parliament in 2007 but became operational in the following year. It was established to train middle level manpower for the oil and gas industries. GIPI received approval of NBTE to mount three NID programs in 2013.
Katsina State Institute of Technology and Management (KSITM) is one of the five state-owned IEIs in Nigeria. It was established in 2013 to provide innovative training in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Business Studies. In 2015, the KSITM received NBTE approval to mount four programs leading to the award National Innovative Diploma.
Minna Institute of Technology and Innovation (MITI) is owned by the Niger State government. The institution, which is located in the state capital, was accredited by the regulator body to run four programs in 2016.
Nigeria–Korea Friendship Institute of Vocational and Advanced Technology (NKFI) was established as a result of collaboration between Kogi State Government and Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). It is located In Lokoja. The institution was handed over to Kogi State in 2015 but received NBTE approval in 2018.
International Vocational Technical Enteprenuership Centre (IVTECH) was commissioned by Kwara State Government in November, 2017. IVTECH, which is located in Ajase-Ipo, received operational approval in 2019. Seven programs mounted by the institution are listed in current brochure of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
These institutions usually admit students more easily than the conventional polytechnics.
